CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – Firefighters and emergency personnel often work for hours on end at large fires or accident scenes, and thanks to the generosity of the Pickaway County Women’s Republican Club, they’ll be better stocked for the next call.

On Wednesday, the club delivered a wide range of supplies — including bottled water, Gatorade, crackers, cookies, beef jerky, coffee creamers, chips, and trash bags — to Box 65, a volunteer organization that provides on-scene support for police, firefighters, and EMTs. These donations will help keep Box 65’s mobile support trucks stocked and ready when emergencies strike.

Brenda Gibson, president of the Pickaway County Women’s Republican Club, said the effort came from a deep appreciation for the men and women who put themselves in harm’s way.

“We wanted to do something tangible to show our gratitude,” Gibson said. “Box 65 makes sure our first responders are hydrated and cared for when they’re out there in the heat, the cold, or after hours of battling a fire. If our donations help even one firefighter push through a tough call, it’s worth every bit of effort.”

Box 65, staffed by volunteers, responds to large-scale emergencies across Pickaway County and beyond, delivering much-needed water, snacks, and other essentials to first responders working long shifts in dangerous conditions.

A representative from Box 65 expressed appreciation for the donation.

“This kind of support means the world to us,” the volunteer said. “We never know when the next big call will come, but with supplies like these we can roll out quickly and know we have what’s needed to help keep crews safe. It may seem like just water and snacks, but out on a fire scene, it makes a huge difference.”

For years, Box 65 has been the behind-the-scenes lifeline for emergency crews, ensuring that while first responders protect the community, someone is looking out for them. Their mobile units arrive at fire and accident scenes equipped with water, food, and other essentials that allow responders to keep doing their jobs without skipping critical breaks. The volunteer group is on pace to receive more calls than last year at 85 runs in 2024.

Gibson said the Women’s Republican Club is proud to support such a mission.

“We see these men and women on the front lines every day — running into burning buildings, responding to accidents, and protecting us in the worst of times,” Gibson said. “Box 65 is right there beside them making sure they have what they need. It’s a privilege for us to contribute to that effort.”

The donation is just one of several community projects the Women’s Republican Club has taken on this year. Club members say they plan to continue supporting local organizations that strengthen and protect Pickaway County.
