PICKAWAY TOWNSHIP, OH — The Pickaway Township Fire Department has received new lifesaving equipment to help some of the community’s most vulnerable residents — pets. Thanks to a donation from the Mona Pants Foundation, the department is now equipped with pet oxygen masks designed to assist animals during emergency situations such as fires and medical incidents.

Fire officials say the specialized masks will allow first responders to provide critical oxygen to pets rescued from smoke-filled or hazardous environments, giving them a better chance of survival during emergencies.

The Mona Pants Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports first responders and animal welfare efforts nationwide. In addition to supplying pet oxygen kits, the foundation provides bulletproof vests for K-9 officers, supports animal shelters with comfort items such as Kuranda Beds, funds spay and neuter programs, and assists with medical care, transport, and adoption efforts for rescue animals across the country.

“We’re thankful for their support and proud to have tools that help us better serve our community — pets included,” the department said in a statement.

The foundation’s work extends beyond emergency response. Over the years, it has helped animal sanctuaries with housing and supplies, rescued animals from kill pens, and even provided mobility assistance, including a wheelchair for a sheep born with a leg deformity. The organization raises funds through an online shop, weekly charity auctions, and retail thrift boutiques, directing proceeds to animal rescues and related causes nationwide.

The donation to Pickaway Township Fire was highlighted with K-9 Gracie, showcasing the impact the new equipment will have for animals in the community.

Officials say the addition of pet oxygen masks strengthens the department’s ability to protect all lives during emergencies and reflects the growing recognition of pets as members of the family.
