CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, local behavioral health leaders honored the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office for its ongoing commitment to fighting addiction and saving lives across the county.
During a special community event, representatives presented the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office with grant funding secured through the Paint Valley ADAMH Board State Opioid Response (SOS) initiative. The award highlights the law enforcement agency’s active role as a key partner in the Pickaway Overdose Response Team (PORT).
Organizers emphasized that combating the overdose crisis requires proactive outreach beyond traditional office walls. Through PORT, local deputies work directly on the front lines to connect individuals in crisis with life-saving resources, distribute naloxone (Narcan), and make direct referrals to treatment providers.
By framing law enforcement encounters as opportunities for intervention, the collaboration aims to bridge the gap between public safety and healthcare, helping to guide individuals toward long-term recovery while providing essential support to local families impacted by substance use disorders.
