CIRCLEVILLE, OHIO — Visitors will have a special opportunity to step inside two of Pickaway County’s historic landmarks September 12 and 13 as part of Ohio Open Doors, a statewide celebration highlighting Ohio’s historic buildings, places and stories.
Organized by the Ohio History Connection, Ohio Open Doors takes place September 10 through 20, 2026, with participating locations across the state offering free opportunities to explore historic spaces and learn more about the people and stories that shaped Ohio.
In Pickaway County, visitors can explore St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Circleville and Mt. Oval Historic House and Farm, with each location offering a different look into local history.
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church
Located at 129 W. Mound Street in Circleville, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church is the only church in Pickaway County listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Founded in 1817, the congregation’s current church was built in 1866 and blends Gothic Revival and Tudor Revival architectural styles.
The church will welcome visitors on Saturday, September 12 from noon to 2 p.m. and Sunday, September 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. Docents will be available to answer questions, and light refreshments will be served. Admission is free.
Mt. Oval Remembers September 11
On Sunday, September 13 from 2 to 4 p.m., Mt. Oval Historic House and Farm, located at 3601 Emerson Road near Circleville, will host a special afternoon combining local history with remembrance of the 25th anniversary of September 11.
Visitors can learn about the circa 1832 Federal-style home, tour the historic log cabin and discover more about the families and early settlers connected to the property. The afternoon will also feature a patriotic concert by the Pickaway Community Band and a special tribute honoring first responders and veterans. Free chili and snacks will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
Both events are free and offer an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience places that have helped tell Pickaway County’s story.
