
CHILLICOTHE, OH — July 25, 2025 — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning on U.S. Route 35 near milepost 18 in Ross County.
The incident took place at approximately 3:46 a.m., when a 2013 Ford F-150 traveling southeast struck a pedestrian walking in the middle of the eastbound lanes. The vehicle was driven by Bobbie J. Bonds Sr., 77, of Spring Hope, North Carolina.
The pedestrian a 33-year-old man, of Chillicothe, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Mr. Bonds was uninjured.
Authorities shut down the eastbound lanes of U.S. Route 35 for nearly three hours as they responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
Multiple agencies assisted in the response, including the Union Township Fire and EMS, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, Chillicothe Police Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Ross County Coroner’s Office.
The circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
