Athens – The Athens Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that troopers
will conduct an OVI checkpoint in Hocking County tomorrow evening. The exact location
of the checkpoint will be announced tomorrow morning, August 28.
The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept
impaired drivers.
So far this year, there have been 5,919 OVI-related crashes on Ohio roadways. Of those
crashes, 236 people were killed and 2,449 people were injured.
“Troopers have made 10,084 OVI arrests this year to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI
checkpoints are designed to deter impaired driving and proactively remove these
dangerous drivers from our roadways,” said Lieutenant Bobby Brown, Athens Post
Commander.

The Patrol is seeking driven, service-minded individuals who are ready to make a

their local OSHP post to schedule a ride-along with a trooper during their shift.
