Columbus, Ohio (March 1, 2024) – Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost released the state’s annual report on concealed handgun licensing, revealing that 90,582 permits were issued in 2023. This represents an increase in permits compared to previous years.

Breakdown of Permits:

  • New Licenses: County sheriffs issued 15,581 new concealed carry licenses in 2023.
  • Renewals: A total of 75,001 permit renewals were processed, as concealed carry licenses require renewal every five years.

Background:

  • County sheriffs remain responsible for issuing, renewing, suspending, and revoking concealed carry licenses.
  • The Attorney General’s Office is mandated by law to compile and release an annual report on the number of licenses issued each year.
