CINCINNATI, OH — A tragic turn of events unfolded Friday afternoon when a Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati in the Corryville neighborhood.

The incident occurred around 1 p.m. on May 2 at 200 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, as the deputy — who had recently retired and was working special duty — was helping manage traffic in the area. According to Hamilton Township officials, the deputy was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

What makes the case even more startling is the identity of the driver: the father of a man who was shot and killed by Cincinnati police just one day earlier in an officer-involved shooting currently under investigation. Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge confirmed the connection during a press conference Friday evening.

The driver remains in critical condition, and investigators are working to determine the motive and circumstances behind the crash. It is unclear at this time whether the collision was intentional. The Cincinnati Police Homicide Unit is now overseeing both the officer-involved shooting and the deputy’s death investigation.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved as they continue to notify next of kin and gather evidence.
