Nicole was born to Tim and Mary Sharrock on August 26, 1983. Nicole entered the world filled with passion and an unmatched ability to love. She was a Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Friend with a thirst for life and a voracious love for all she met. Selfless by nature, she was always thinking of others before herself. Nicole leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was an unbelievable wife and mother, gifted with an overflowing heart that she poured into nurturing every foster child that entered her home. Nicole embodied the teachings of Jesus when He emphasized the significance of showing kindness and hospitality to others, especially those considered vulnerable or marginalized. Nicole’s legacy shines through the Lord’s message that we also honor and welcome Jesus himself by caring for others.
“And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them, Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.” (Mark 9:36-37).
With humility and passion, Nicole thrived on learning more. Nicole’s tenacity and extreme intelligence earned her a Juris Doctorate with honors from Capital University. After passing the bar exam this past July, the Ohio Supreme Court of Ohio admitted her to the Ohio Bar, where she planned to specialize in adoption law. Before attending Capital University, Nicole graduated from The Ohio State University, where she graduated with a B.S. from Fisher Business School. She was a graduate of St. Bernard-Elmwood Place High School. She did all this while building an incredible career at Nationwide Insurance that spanned 21 years.
Nicole and Brock’s relationship started over 20 years ago when she moved to Columbus. In 2011, they were married and spent 11 incredible years together. The happiest moment of their life was becoming parents to Harrison and Clayton Van Gundy. Together, they chose to live each day to the fullest. Before starting their family, they enjoyed traveling and seeking adventures in many countries, always looking for new experiences and taking in different cultures. Nicole’s love of sports, especially volleyball, allowed her to form lifelong friendships she cherished dearly.
Nicole is survived by her husband, Brock Van Gundy, and sons, Alex, Harrison, and Clayton Van Gundy. Parents, Tim and Mary Sharrock; siblings, Tim (Sara) Sharrock, Lauren (Matt) Westfall, Elizabeth (Doug) Curry, Sarah Sharrock (David), Jennifer (Zach) Stapleton, Rachel (Casey) Perry; many nieces & nephews (Aiden Sharrock, Rory Sharrock, Ava Westfall, Marliesa Westfall, Wyatt Westfall, Adeline Westfall, Noah Curry, Sophia Curry, Emmett Stapleton, Ezra Stapleton) and countless friends.
