The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of 78,533 cases of bottled water, totaling approximately 1.9 million bottles, due to contamination concerns. Testing revealed the presence of manganese and three types of bacteria in certain water samples.

Natural Waters of Viti Limited initiated the recall after the National Institutes of Health (NIH) highlighted that high levels of manganese consumption could lead to toxicity. The affected products include Fiji Natural Artesian Water sold on Amazon.com between February 1, 2024, and March 3, 2024. Specifically, the recall pertains to the following:

  • Fiji Natural Artesian Water 500 mL (24 pack)
    • Case UPC Code: 6 32565 00004 3
    • Bottle UPC Code: 6 32565 00001 2
    • Production Dates: November 11, 2023; November 12, 2023; November 13, 2023; November 24, 2023; November 25, 2023

The recall, which began on March 4 and is still ongoing, is classified as a Class III recall. According to the FDA, this classification indicates that the product is unlikely to cause adverse health consequences. Consumers who have purchased the affected water are advised to dispose of it and can contact Fiji Water for a refund at 1-866-406-4149.

Residents in Michigan and Ohio are among those impacted by this recall.
