Memorial Day is a time of solemn remembrance in Pickaway County, and the Pickaway County Soldiers Monumental Association has announced plans to honor the fallen with three distinct services on May 27th, 2024.

The day’s events will commence with a heartfelt tribute to Pickaway’s oldest veteran, Richard Pettit, during the parade. Charlie Weaver will serve as the Grand Marshal for the procession. At the Forest Cemetery, Retired Lt. Col. Patty Hamilton will deliver a poignant speech, followed by Chaplain Lt. Col. Thomas H. Whiteman Jr.

The morning will begin with services at the High Street Cemetery at 8:00 am, followed by a parade winding through downtown Circleville, commencing after the initial ceremony. The route will proceed from Pickaway to High Street, then to North Court Street, culminating at the Forest Cemetery for a service at 10:00 am.

At 11:00 am, a Memorial Day ceremony will take place at the Harrison Township cemetery, hosted by the VFW Auxiliary, and featuring an Honor Guard presentation. Boy Scout Troop 159 and the TVHS Golden Sound band will provide musical accompaniment, while Gerhard Maroscher will deliver a tribute to the 25 soldiers who perished during the Vietnam War.

Subsequently, at 11:30 am, an event will be held at the Hilter-Ludwig Cemetery on Hitler Road in Pickaway County, further honoring the sacrifices of servicemen and women.

Concluding the day’s commemorations, a final event will be held at Reber Hill Cemetery at 2:00 pm, with Gerhard Maroscher offering reflections as the keynote speaker.

For those unable to attend in person, the services will be streamed live on Sciotopost’s Facebook page, ensuring that the community can come together in spirit to honor and remember the brave individuals who gave their lives in service to their country.
