Scioto County – Man Arrested After Shooting Ex-Girlfriend’s Dad

South Webster, Ohio (February 18, 2024) – A South Webster man is facing attempted murder and felonious assault charges after allegedly shooting his ex-girlfriend’s father on Saturday afternoon.

The Incident:

According to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, a woman contacted authorities around 1:45 PM on February 17th, requesting a deputy to stand by while she retrieved belongings from her residence. She disclosed having been involved in a disturbance with her ex-boyfriend the previous night in Jackson County.

Minutes later, at 1:59 PM, the communication center received another call from the woman, this time stating her ex-boyfriend had just shot her father.

Swift Response and Arrest:

Sheriff Thoroughman confirmed that deputies apprehended the suspect, identified as 36-year-old John Moore, by 2:02 PM and cleared the scene for EMS personnel to respond by 2:03 PM.

Charges and Next Steps:

Moore is facing charges of attempted murder, a felony of the 1st degree, and felonious assault, a felony of the 2nd degree. He is currently held without bond on the attempted murder charge and has a $20,000 bond on the felonious assault charge. His court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20th, at Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Victim’s Condition:

The victim, identified as 46-year-old Joeseph Morris of Fairborn, Ohio, received initial treatment at Southern Ohio Medical Center before being flown to Grant Trauma Center in Columbus for further care.

Ongoing Investigation:
