PICKAWAY COUNTY, OH – An overnight Friday collision involving a motor vehicle and livestock left one horse dead and a driver injured, forcing a lengthy closure of a local roadway early Saturday morning.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:05 AM at 25593 Tarlton Adelphi road when a vehicle traveling through the area struck a horse that had wandered into the path of travel.

The Scene

According to early reports from the scene, the impact was fatal for the horse. The animal came to rest in the center of the roadway, creating a significant hazard and requiring authorities to shut down the route in both directions.

Emergency crews worked for several hours to clear the wreckage and remove the deceased animal from the scene. It is currently unclear how the horse escaped its enclosure or if other livestock were loose in the vicinity at the time of the crash.

Driver Condition

The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not yet been released, was treated by responding paramedics. Officials confirmed that the driver suffered only minor injuries despite the heavy impact and the significant damage sustained by the vehicle.

Traffic Impact

The roadway remained closed for a portion of the night while the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation, and utility or road crews assisted with the cleanup. The road has since been reopened to traffic.
