Hocking County Sheriff Lanny E. North reports:

February 20, 2022
Deputies responded to State Route 93S to a report of a male subject in a mental health crisis. It was reported a male subject was armed with a knife and firearm. Deputies made contact with the male subject who did not have any weapons at the time. After speaking to all parties involved the male subject was transported to Hocking Valley Community Hospital (H.V.C.H.) for treatment. While at H.V.C.H. the male subject became very irate and abusive towards hospital staff. He was transported to South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Deputies responded to Little Cola Road to a report of theft. It was reported that numerous items were stolen from a rental cabin. The owner of the cabin stated the previous renters took items. The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to Deible Road to a report of a death. It was reported that a male subject w/as found deceased by natural causes. Statements were obtained and evidence was collected. The decedent was released to Cardaras Funeral Home.

Deputies responded to Pike Steet on a report of a possible overdose. It was reported that a female subject at the residence may have taken too many sleeping pills. Medics from Hocking County Emergency Services administered Narcan and the female subject recovered. She stated she didn’t purposely take too many pills and believed she took her prescribed amount. She was transported to Hocking Valley Community Hospital for treatment.

Deputies responded to Engle Road to a report of domestic violence. It was reported that a male subject was assaulted by another male family member. After speaking to witnesses and collecting evidence, the male subject who reported the incident was arrested and transported to South Eastern Ohio Regional Jail.

February 21, 2022
A victim came to the Sheriff’s Office to report an incident of identity theft. The victim stated someone used her identity to open a credit card to purchase a television online. A report was taken and the incident remains under investigation.

Deputies responded to Clapper Hollow Road to a report of theft and criminal damaging. It was reported that seventy-nine thousand dollars ($79,000.00) of damage was done to a residence that an investment company purchased from a Sheriff’s sale of real estate. Evidence and statements were collected. The incident is still under investigation and has been sent to the Hocking County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Deputies responded to State Route 56 to a report of criminal damaging. It was reported the victim’s neighbor cut a tree down and it fell on her fence, causing damage. Deputies spoke to the neighbor and both parties were advised a report would be on file.

February 22, 2022
Deputies responded to Old McArthur Road to a report of a crash. It was reported that the driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch, causing damage. The driver was issued a citation for failure to control.

Deputies assigned to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital responded to the Emergency Department to a report of a male subject in a mental health crisis. Deputies spoke to the male subject. He later spoke to a mental health counselor.

February 23, 2022
Deputies took a report at the Sheriff’s Office regarding criminal damaging. It was reported that the victim’s mailbox had been pulled out of the ground. The mailbox was not damaged but two flower planters that were attached to it were. The victim only requested that a report be on file.

Deputies assigned to the Hocking Valley Community Hospital responded to the Emergency Department to a report of a male that became disorderly. The male subject was brought into the hospital on a probate order. The male was arrested and taken to a treatment facility.

Deputies responded to State Route 374 on a report of a natural death. It was reported that the resident was deceased. Deputies collected evidence and the decedent was released to Heinlein Brown Funeral Home.

A victim came to the Sheriff’s Office to report an incident of criminal mischief. It was reported that a vehicle had crashed into his fence. Deputies were unable to determine the direction of travel for the vehicle. The victim was advised a report would be on file.

Deputies responded to Scotts Creek on a report of an abandoned vehicle. It was reported a vehicle was parked along the roadway. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered the vehicle was stolen out of the City of Logan. The vehicle was impounded and the incident remains under investigation through Logan Police Department.

Deputies responded to Hayden Place Apartments on a report of disorderly conduct. It was reported that a male and female subject were in a verbal argument. The male subject left prior to the Deputies arrival. After speaking to the female subject, it was determined it was only a verbal argument. She was advised a report would be on file.

Deputies responded to State Route 328 to a report of a verbal domestic violence. Deputies spoke to the subjects involved and determined that only a verbal altercation occurred. The female subject involved decided to leave the residence for the evening.

Deputies responded to Laurel Street to a report of a possible burglary. After checking the residence with the homeowner, it was determined that no crime occurred.

Deputies responded to Deible Road to a report of a theft complaint. It was reported that a subject was trying to take a vehicle that didn’t belong to him. It was determined the vehicle belonged to a subject who was incarcerated in jail. Deputies took possession of the keys until the owner could be contacted.

Deputies responded to State Route 664 to a report of an unruly juvenile. It was reported a male juvenile walked into a local store and asked for a ride to the City of Logan. Deputies spoke to the juvenile and determined he was having some issues at his residence. The juvenile was released to a family relative.

Deputies responded to Clapper Hollow Road to a report of breaking and entering. It was reported that subjects were trying to steal items from a residence. Detectives were called to the scene. Deputies and Detectives determined the incident might be civil. During an interview with a male subject, a small baggy of marijuana fell out of his pocket. Deputies and Detectives requested the subjects involved come to the Sheriff’s Office for interviews. The incident remains under investigation.
