CHILLICOTHE, OH — A high-speed vehicle pursuit that began with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office ended Monday night after Chillicothe police officers successfully stopped the suspect vehicle and took one man into custody.

According to police reports, Chillicothe officers assisted Ross County deputies during an active pursuit that entered the city limits traveling eastbound on Western Avenue. Deputies initially reported the suspect vehicle was traveling at speeds approaching 90 miles per hour.

Chillicothe officers attempted multiple traffic-interdiction tactics during the chase, including deploying stop sticks along Western Avenue and Water Street. One set of spikes was believed to have struck the vehicle’s front driver-side tire, though the pursuit continued through several city streets.

The suspect vehicle, identified as a black Chevrolet Cruze, traveled through portions of Western Avenue, Main Street, Sugar Street, Clay Street, and Bridge Street, at times driving the wrong way on one-way streets and into oncoming traffic. Officers reported speeds fluctuating between 40 and 65 miles per hour as the pursuit continued.

Due to the reckless driving behavior and public safety risk, officers requested and received permission to use a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver) to stop the vehicle. The maneuver was attempted near the U.S. Route 35 overpass on North Bridge Street but was initially unsuccessful.

A second PIT maneuver was executed near the intersection of North Bridge Street and North Plaza Boulevard, causing the vehicle to partially spin and slow enough for officers to surround and stop it. Law enforcement then boxed in the vehicle, allowing deputies and officers to safely remove the driver.

The suspect, identified as Luke Matthew Marshall, was taken into custody without further incident. Minor cosmetic damage to a patrol vehicle was documented. No injuries were reported.

The investigation into the pursuit and related charges remains ongoing.
