Chillicothe, OH – Get ready for slam dunks and community spirit! The legendary Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament is returning to Chillicothe, Ohio for its 50th anniversary, and Cheryl’s House of Hope is organizing the event to honor the late Mike Barrows.

The two-day event, scheduled for May 11th and 12th, will transform the streets of Chillicothe into a vibrant showcase of athleticism, teamwork, and family fun. The Gus Macker is known for its open format, welcoming players of all ages and skill levels to compete in half-court games.

Chillicothe native Mike Barrows was instrumental in bringing the Gus Macker to the city in the early 1990s. The tournament quickly became a beloved community tradition, offering children and families a chance to experience the joy of competition and togetherness. Hundreds participated each year, creating lasting memories until Mike’s passing in 1994.

This year’s event is a special tribute to Mike’s legacy. “My brother Mike was the driving force behind bringing the Gus Macker here,” says Mark Barrows. “He would be thrilled to see it return for its 50th anniversary.”

Cheryl Beverly, founder of Cheryl’s House of Hope, emphasizes the importance of community support in making the event a success. “We need sponsors and volunteers to help us bring the Gus Macker back to life,” she says. “From basketball courts and food to t-shirts and helping hands, every contribution makes a difference.”
