PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Nearly four years after a man was killed in a Portsmouth alley, police have taken a suspect into custody following a secret grand jury indictment.

The Portsmouth Police Department announced Tuesday that Favio LJ Campa has been arrested in Georgia and returned to Ohio for the 2022 homicide of Chad Sissel.

On October 29, 2022, Sissel was killed in an alleyway located behind 1225 Linden Avenue. Following a lengthy investigation led by Portsmouth Police Detective Shepherd, authorities identified Campa as a suspect and presented the evidence to the Scioto County Grand Jury through Prosecutor Shane Tieman’s office.

The grand jury returned a secret indictment against Campa, who was residing in Georgia at the time. After being taken into custody, Campa was extradited back to Ohio and is currently being held in the Scioto County Jail.

Campa faces four formal charges:

  • Aggravated Murder
  • Murder
  • Felonious Assault
  • Tampering with Evidence

An arraignment date in Scioto County Common Pleas Court has not yet been scheduled.

Portsmouth police expressed gratitude to those who assisted in the multi-year investigation. Authorities ask anyone with additional information regarding the case to contact Detective Shepherd at 740-354-1600
