PICKAWAY – The Aces and Vikings will battle for the top spot in the MSL Friday night in Ashville at 7pm. For many of us this game has been circled on the calendar since week one. Amanda comes into this game holding a 20-11 all-time record against the Vikings, however TV has won 4 out of the past 5 meetings including a 9-0 victory last season. Coming into MSL play it was well-known that the Buckeye Division was a 3-team race, Amanda, Teays Valley and Bloom Carrol. The Aces already did their part in week 6 by knocking off the Bulldogs of Bloom Carroll 21-14 to set Amanda up to win the MSL title outright with a win over the Vikings.
As the weeks went by and we inched closer to this week’s game both teams have shown they flat out get it done in all three phases of the game. Both teams are well coached, and the players have bought into the idea that defense and special teams are just as important as the offense. Teays Valley in their 6 wins this year have recorded 4 shutouts and have outscored their MSL opponents by a remarkable 180-7. The Aces are extremely tough to score on also as they only give up an average of 15 points a game. With an Amanda Clearcreek win it would secure their first MSL title since 2011 and it would also catapult them back into the playoffs for a second consecutive year. When I talk about these two teams I generally talk about the unbelievable balance they have within the offense. To move the ball on the ground and in the air is what separates good teams from the great ones. Fortunately for both squads they have a QB under center that can get their offenses moving early and often. These balanced offenses are ran by 1st team All-District Payton Madison from Amanda and Teays Valley’s Tristian Mcdanel who has a QB rating of 124 this season. Both Madison and Mcdanel have good escapability, throw accurate on the run and routinely pass and run for 100 yards per game. This game should come down to who can keep the chains moving on offense and can win the turnover battle. Scioto Post Prediction Teays Valley 22 Amanda Clearcreek 19
