Pickaway County — A tragic head-on collision on US-62 south of TR-159 (Ballah Road) claimed lives on Monday, September 16, 2024. The crash occurred around 2:00 P.M. and involved two vehicles: a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado and a 2022 Ford Ecosport.
According to the Circleville Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado driven by James Stumbo, 59 of Washington Court House was traveling southbound when it veered left of center, colliding head-on with a 2022 Ford Ecosport driven by Clint Simmons 38 of Washington Court house , which was heading northbound. Stumbo was transferred to Grant Medical Center with injuries. Simmons was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Sterling Joint Fire and EMS, Tri County Fire and EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation were on the scene to provide assistance. The Pickaway County Coroner’s Office and the County Prosecutor’s Office also responded to the incident.
Stumbo was suspected of possible impairment, and as given tests that part of this crash is still under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash, with further details expected as the inquiry continues.
