COMMERCIAL POINT, Ohio — New development interest is building in Commercial Point as plans for a potential return of El Cañon, an authentic Mexican restaurant, move back in front of village council for consideration.

El Cañon representatives recently appeared before council seeking approval of a major site plan that would include a new restaurant location along with a strip of storefronts, signaling broader commercial development in the area. The property located 10859 Welch road would be part of the Pettit’s Tif.

In addition to the site plan, council held a public hearing and first reading on a proposed rezoning of approximately 21.92 acres off U.S. Route 104. The request would rezone the property to PRD (Planned Residential Development), a move officials say could help guide future growth and land use in the village.

Village leaders emphasized that community input is an important part of the process. A second opportunity for residents to speak on both the site plan and the rezoning request is scheduled for Monday, January 26, at 7 p.m., during the next council meeting.

El Cañon is known for its authentic Mexican cuisine and currently operates locations in Grove City, Washington Court House, and Greenfield. The restaurant prides itself on offering a wide-ranging menu, family-friendly atmosphere, and community involvement, including hosting local events.

Supporters say the proposed development could bring new dining options, retail space, and economic activity to Commercial Point, while others are encouraged to attend the upcoming meeting to share feedback or ask questions.

If approved, the project would mark another step in Commercial Point’s ongoing growth and revitalization efforts.
