Columbus Police Return Fire on Man who Pointed and Fired Gun at Them

COLUMBUS – A officer-involved shooting occured last night in the area of West Broad Street

Columbus Police officers were patrolling the area of West Broad Street near Interstate 270. Officers observed disabled vehicles from a traffic crash on West Broad Street and assisted the occupants (Along with Franklin County Sheriff Deputies).

During the investigation of the traffic crash, one of the occupants from the vehicles involved fled the scene on foot and CPD officers and FCSO pursued on foot. During the pursuit of the occupant, he brandished a firearm and discharged it at the officers and deputies. At least one officer and one deputy returned fire striking him in the lower body.

Once taken into custody, officers and deputies rendered aid until medical personnel arrived. A firearm was recovered from the suspect. No injuries were sustained by CPD or FCSO personnel.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital in non-life threatening condition. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting the investigation into the officer involved shooting by CPD and FCSO.

Additional charges on the suspect will be filed by FCSO. The suspect in the case is Mr. Brandon R. Johnson, DOB: 9-26-91.
