CIRCLEVILLE, OH – May 9, 2025 — City officials in Circleville are exploring solutions after a traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 188 and Nicholas Drive sustained significant damage—not once, but twice—in recent weeks.

According to the city, the traffic light was first damaged by a semi-truck that reportedly failed to stop, striking the signal and rendering it inoperable. Emergency overnight repairs were made to restore basic functionality. However, the signal was hit again shortly thereafter, this time causing more extensive damage that cannot be addressed with temporary fixes.

The city is now evaluating two primary options: replacing the existing signal with taller poles and upgraded infrastructure to improve clearance and durability, or removing the light entirely and converting the intersection into a four-way stop.

“We’re currently weighing these options and welcome public input as part of the decision-making process,” said Jim Stanley, the city’s service director.

No timeline has been set for a final decision, but officials emphasize that safety and long-term efficiency will be key factors in how the intersection is redesigned or repaired.

Residents and commuters are encouraged to stay alert while traveling through the area, as temporary traffic measures may be in place.
