Circleville Post Trooper Seizes Drugs and Weapons Out of a Traffic Stop on US 23 in Pickaway

CIRCLEVILLE – A Circleville Post trooper of the Ohio State Highway Patrol seized drugs and weapons out of a traffic stop on US 23 in northern Pickaway County.

A Circleville Post trooper made a traffic stop on US 23 north of South Bloomfield on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at 3:57 a.m. for several traffic violations. The driver, Eric W. Sargent, 20 of Columbus, was subsequently arrested for OVI. A probable cause search of the vehicle revealed 17.4 pounds of marijuana plants, and three (3) loaded firearms. Mr. Sargent was arrested for OVI, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability, improper handling of a firearm, and several other traffic violations. The passenger in the vehicle, James D. Schamber, 19 of Columbus, was also arrested for the weapons charges. The charges relating to the drugs seized are pending. Both Mr. Sargent and Mr. Schamber were incarcerated at the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
