COLUMBUS – Mayor Michelle L. Blanton of Circleville honored the dedicated nurses of Ohio Health Berger during a special ceremony on May 8th, 2024, as part of National Nurse’s Week celebrations. Gretchen Roberts, Chief Nursing Officer at Ohio Health Berger, was presented with a Proclamation recognizing the vital role nurses play in healthcare.
National Nurses Week, observed annually from May 6th to May 12th, coinciding with Florence Nightingale’s birthday, aims to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of nurses to the healthcare community. Additionally, May 8th has been designated as National Student Nurses Day since 1998, highlighting the crucial role of student nurses in shaping the future of healthcare.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) has long advocated for the nursing profession, promoting recognition events and celebrations at the state and regional levels. This year’s National Nurses Week holds particular significance, commemorating the dedication and resilience of nurses in the face of unprecedented challenges.
Gretchen Roberts, with 31 years as a nurse, 28 of these years with OhioHealth, started as a frontline ICU nurse in 1992, has held various leadership positions since 2004. BSN from BGSU in 1992, MSN from Otterbein in 1999, currently enrolled in the Otterbein DNP Executive program will graduate in May 2025.
Roberts pursued her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Bowling Green State University before furthering her education with a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from Otterbein University. Her journey reflects the ongoing pursuit of excellence and continuous learning within the nursing profession.
As National Nurses Week continues, communities across Ohio and the nation are encouraged to recognize and express gratitude to nurses for their invaluable contributions to healthcare.
