A woman, identified as Stephanie Nichols, was arrested yesterday at the Chillicothe Wal-Mart for theft and possession of suspected methamphetamine.

According to police reports, Loss Prevention Officer spotted Nichols concealing merchandise in her handbag while shopping. Upon questioning by police, Nichols admitted to the theft, stating she needed clothes for her granddaughter’s birthday and claimed financial hardship.

The stolen items, totaling $144.80, were recovered from Nichols’ purse. A search of Wal-Mart’s internal system revealed Nichols to be a previous shoplifting suspect from Waverly Wal-Mart, and she was barred from the property.

During a routine search, Nichols confessed to having methamphetamine hidden in her bra. Officers retrieved two bags of a crystal-like substance suspected to be meth.

Nichols was arrested for theft and booked at the Ross County Jail. She is scheduled for a court appearance on March 22nd, 2024, at 9 am. The suspected narcotics will be submitted for testing, and additional felony charges may be filed based on the results.
