
CHILLICOTHE — Chillicothe police responded to several incidents across the city on January 1, 2026, including an OVI arrest, multiple theft complaints, and a reported protection order violation, according to the Chillicothe Police Department’s daily media report released January 2.
Just after 1 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop that resulted in an OVI arrest. Police reported the driver was cited for driving outside marked lanes and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of at least 0.08, but less than the highest tier under Ohio law. The incident remains under investigation.
Later in the morning and early afternoon, officers were called multiple times to the North Bridge Street area. Around 11:39 a.m. and again at 1:26 p.m., police responded to incidents involving criminal trespass and a reported theft complaint at Rural King, located at 1470 N. Bridge St.
Additional theft investigations were reported around 1:31 p.m. and 2:54 p.m., including a call to the Salvation Army Thrift Store at 1419 N. Bridge St. Police said the theft cases remain under investigation.
In the evening, officers were dispatched at 6:04 p.m. to McDonald’s at 1225 Western Ave. in reference to a reported protection order violation. That incident was classified as non-criminal while police continued to review the circumstances.
Chillicothe police noted that several cases from New Year’s Day remain open, and further information may be released as investigations progress.
