CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Authorities are looking for a suspect following an alleged late-night assault involving a firearm early Tuesday morning.

According to a report from the Chillicothe Police Department, officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 61 N. Bridge St. around 1:18 a.m. on Sept. 15, 2026, after receiving a report of a disorderly incident.

Upon arriving, officers spoke with the victim, identified as Jeffery L. Crampton Jr. Crampton reported that he had been sitting on the porch of a nearby residence at 364 E. 2nd St., charging his phone, when a group of individuals approached him.

Crampton told police that one man in the group—whom he identified only as “Timmy”—was carrying a handgun and struck him in the forehead with the butt of the weapon. The assailant then fled the scene on foot toward Mosher Alley.

Responding officers noted a small cut on Crampton’s forehead. He declined medical treatment at the scene, though officers took photographs of the injury for evidence.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 40s, who was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt.

Police conducted a search of the surrounding area following the report, but were unable to locate anyone matching the description. Officers also attempted to contact the homeowner at the East 2nd Street address, but received no response at the door.

The department currently has no further active leads, and the investigation remains open. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the identity of the suspect is encouraged to contact the Chillicothe Police Department.
