PORTSMOUTH, OH — Early childhood education in Scioto County is getting a hands-on boost thanks to new grant funding awarded to a local learning hub.
The Candyland Children’s Museum (CCM), located at 202 Market Street in Portsmouth’s historic Boneyfiddle District, has been awarded a $3,000 grant from the Southern Ohio Cleanup Company through its Community Commitment Plan.
Designed for children ages 10 and under, the museum provides interactive, imaginative, and sensory-focused play spaces. The newly awarded grant funds will directly support “Let’s Build,” a new interactive exhibit space designed to introduce science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts to early learners.
“Let’s Build is an interactive exhibit space designed to introduce preschool and early elementary-aged children to careers in engineering, skilled trades and infrastructure through hands-on STEM play,” said Megan Baum, director at CCM. “This exhibit space will address the critical regional challenge of early awareness of technical and trade careers.”
By introducing young children to technical fields and skilled trades through play, museum leadership aims to spark early curiosity in regional career pathways.

- Admission: $10 per person for adults and children over 12 months (infants under 12 months enter free). Discounted $2 “Memory Maker” tickets are available at the desk for families presenting an EBT or WIC card.

- Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Monday & Tuesday: Closed for field trips and private events
