HOCKING TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 23-year-old man was killed and two others were injured following a severe two-vehicle collision on U.S. Route 33 Sunday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers responded to the scene near the U.S. Route 22 interchange near Lancaster at approximately 6:15 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2016 GMC Terrain was traveling eastbound on U.S. Route 33 when the driver traveled off the right side of the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, veering off the left side of the road and overturning into the westbound lanes. The GMC Terrain struck a westbound 2025 Chevrolet Trax before catching fire.
The driver of the Chevrolet Trax, identified as 23-year-old Cameron M. Lyon, was treated at the scene and transported by Hocking Township EMS to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A passenger in Lyon’s vehicle was transported by Berne Township EMS to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Lancaster EMS transported the driver of the GMC Terrain to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
State troopers noted that alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision. The crash remains under active investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
