CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A tense confrontation involving a large crowd and an alleged firearm drew a heavy police presence to a local gas station early Monday morning, resulting in criminal citations for two area men.

According to supplementary police narratives released by Chillicothe Police Officer Justin Tuttle, officers rushed to the Sheetz gas station at 1525 North Bridge Street at approximately 1:36 a.m. following emergency reports of a fight in progress.

Crowd Separation and Firearm Seizure

Upon arriving at the scene, responding officers discovered a large crowd gathered in the rear parking lot of the business. As officers moved in to separate the crowd, multiple witnesses pointed out Shane Anthony Atwood, claiming he had been waving a firearm around immediately before police arrived.

Officer Tuttle, noting prior law enforcement contact with Atwood regarding disorderly behavior, questioned him about the weapon. Atwood indicated that his firearm was located inside his truck.

With Atwood’s consent, officers searched the driver’s side door panel and retrieved a Glock 23 .40-caliber handgun. The weapon was rendered safe and secured inside a patrol vehicle during the investigation.

Taunts and Past Allegations Sparked Dispute

Police then interviewed the second primary party involved, identified as Davis Stratton Anderson.

According to police records, Anderson admitted to officers that he had actively tried to instigate a physical fight with Atwood. Anderson claimed the dispute stemmed from severe, long-standing criminal allegations from years past. He told police that he and his friends had been directing mocking taunts and insults toward Atwood regarding those allegations.

Anderson further alleged that over the past month, Atwood had threatened his friend group at the nearby Gabe’s parking lot by brandishing a handgun. He claimed that on Monday morning, he approached Atwood’s truck at Sheetz and challenged him to a physical fight, at which point Atwood allegedly chambered a round into his pistol.

Despite the high tension and the presence of the firearm, Anderson confirmed to police that no punches were ever thrown and the incident never became physical.

Court Dates Issued

Because both men actively engaged in the escalating confrontation, both were hit with criminal charges for provoking the incident.

Officer Tuttle issued misdemeanor summonses to both Davis Stratton Anderson and Shane Anthony Atwood for Disorderly Conduct via Provoking and Taunting (Ohio Revised Code 2917.11A3).

Both men signed for their respective copies at the scene before the crowd was successfully dispersed. Atwood is scheduled to appear in court on June 12, 2026, while Anderson is slated for a June 15, 2026 court date.
