
CHILLICOTHE, OH – The Chillicothe Police Department handled a wide range of incidents on Sunday, April 19, 2026, ranging from retail thefts and disorderly conduct to a serious accident involving a pedestrian.
Retail Theft and Menacing at Major Plazas
North Bridge Street remained a focal point for police activity throughout the day, particularly near major shopping centers:
- Sam’s Club: Officers responded to a threat complaint at 2:30 p.m. A summons for menacing was issued to an individual on the scene.
- Kroger (Western Ave): Police were dispatched at 4:51 p.m. to investigate a larceny report.
- JCPenney: At 5:18 p.m., officers responded to a crash in the parking lot. During the investigation, a warrant was served on one of the parties involved.
- Ongoing Larcenies: A theft report was taken regarding an incident that occurred Saturday in the 1400 block of North Bridge Street, and a separate investigation is underway for a theft at a Lincoln Park apartment.
Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety
Two notable incidents involving non-motorists occurred on Sunday:
- Pedestrian Struck: At 9:26 p.m., officers rushed to the area of Eastern Avenue near South Watt Street where a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle. A crash report was completed, and citations were issued.
- Erratic Bicyclist: Earlier in the afternoon, an officer stopped a bicyclist near Bridge and Main Street. The rider, identified as Joseph Willett, allegedly crossed diagonally through traffic, forcing vehicles to brake suddenly. Willett was issued a citation for Crossing Outside of a Crosswalk and is due in court on May 1.

Disorderly Conduct and Disturbance Calls
The city saw a spike in disturbance calls throughout the morning and evening:
- S. Renick Avenue: An early morning traffic stop (12:43 a.m.) for a license plate violation escalated, resulting in multiple arrests.
- McArthur Gardens: Officers were dispatched to the Columbus Street complex at 2:06 a.m. regarding a criminal trespass complaint.
- Intoxication: Police were called to East 7th Street at 8:05 a.m. for an intoxicated individual reportedly “annoying or alarming” residents.
- Late Night: Disorderly conduct investigations were opened late Sunday night following incidents at Five Below on North Bridge Street and a residence on Toledo Street.
Vandalism and Mischief
A vandalism complaint was filed on East 4th Street around 10:18 a.m., where “Criminal Mischief” was reported. Officers are also investigating a menacing complaint on East 5th Street and a disturbance at Lincoln Park.
