LANCASTER — Emergency responders are currently on the scene of a life-threatening situation at Rising Park after a person reportedly fell from the landmark sandstone bluff known as Mount Pleasant.
The Lancaster Police Department received the call at 6:29 p.m. today, April 16, 2026. Initial reports indicated an injured individual on the bluff, prompting an immediate and massive response from both police and the Lancaster Fire Department.
“Technical Rescue” Underway
Dispatchers have officially classified the operation as a “Tech Rescue – High Angle Rescue,” a designation used when specialized equipment, ropes, and climbing gear are required to reach or move a patient in steep or vertical terrain.
Mount Pleasant is a prominent geological feature in Lancaster, rising approximately 250 to 300 feet above the surrounding city. While it is a popular destination for hikers and photographers due to its scenic overlook, the sheer sandstone cliffs present significant hazards.
Public Advised to Avoid the Area
Authorities have issued an urgent request for the public to avoid Rising Park and the 1120 North High Street area while the rescue operation is in progress.
“We are asking the public to stay clear of the park at this time to allow our first responders the space they need to work,” the Lancaster Police Department stated.
The status and identity of the injured person have not yet been released. High-angle rescues are notoriously complex and time-consuming, as crews must secure both the victim and the rescuers against the vertical cliff face.
No further details regarding the cause of the fall have been provided. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
