TWIN TOWNSHIP — A failure to yield at a stop sign led to a violent two-vehicle crash in Ross County on Thursday afternoon, leaving several young adults and a teenager injured.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 2:32 PM on April 9, 2026, at the intersection of Potts Hill Road (County Road 28) and State Route 772.
The Collision
The crash report indicates that a black 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by 22-year-old Matthew T. Mulholland of Chillicothe, was traveling southeast on Potts Hill Road. Investigators determined that Mulholland failed to yield from the stop sign at the intersection.
As the Cruze entered the intersection, it was struck by an orange 2015 Jeep Renegade traveling southwest on State Route 772. The Jeep was driven by 21-year-old Robert A. Thornton of Lancaster. The impact was severe enough to disable both vehicles, which were later towed from the scene by Best Towing and Vest Towing.
Injuries and Medical Response
The crash resulted in injuries to nearly all occupants across both vehicles:
From Unit 1 (Chevrolet Cruze):
- Matthew Mulholland (Driver): Reported possible injuries and was transported by Bainbridge EMS to Adena Health System in Chillicothe.
- Sahkyia D. Martin (20): Sustained suspected serious injuries and was rushed by Bainbridge EMS to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
- Malachi J. Beatty (22): Suffered suspected minor injuries and was taken to Adena by Huntington Township EMS.
- Brennan M. Williamson (17): Reported no apparent injuries at the scene.
From Unit 2 (Jeep Renegade):
- Robert Thornton (Driver): Sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Adena by Twin Township EMS.
- Sara Hudson: An additional passenger in the Jeep also sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Adena.
Investigation and Citations
Trooper Haley Shreck of the Ohio State Highway Patrol led the investigation. Matthew Mulholland was issued a citation for Failure to Yield at a Stop Sign (Ohio Revised Code 4511.43A).
State Route 772 was partially closed for approximately 100 minutes as crews worked to clear the wreckage and provide medical aid. Conditions at the time of the crash were reported as cloudy but dry.
Authorities remind drivers to remain vigilant at all intersections, particularly in rural townships where high-speed limits on through-roads can make failure-to-yield incidents especially dangerous.
