ASHVILLE, Ohio — A 14-year-old was involved in a stabbing incident near the Teays Valley High School campus led to a school-wide lockdown and a massive police response around 9 am.
The violence reportedly unfolded early Wednesday morning off-campus. Authorities believe the teen was attacked by someone on Ashton Drive before fleeing toward the high school to seek help. According to witnesses, the victim managed to enter the building, prompting school officials to immediately trigger lockdown protocols and alert emergency services.
Rapid Emergency Response
Pickaway County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical crews arrived on the scene within minutes. The child was safely protected by the school’s SRO unit, who was at the school. Paramedics treated the 14-year-old for multiple stab wounds before transporting them to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. The victim’s current condition has not been officially released.
While the school remained locked down for about an hour, law enforcement emphasized that the assault did not take place on school property.
Investigation and Custody
Police activity was concentrated on Ashton Drive throughout the morning as investigators processed what is believed to be the primary crime scene.
Authorities have confirmed that a person of interest is currently in custody, though no names or potential motives have been disclosed. While a suspect has been detained, officials say the investigation remains “very active” and are asking the public to avoid the area near Ashton Drive.
Teays Valley High School has since lifted the lockdown, but a heavy police presence is expected to remain on campus for the remainder of the day to provide security and support for students and staff.
