
COLUMBUS, Ohio (April 3, 2026) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol welcomed 43 new troopers into its ranks Friday as the 178th Academy Class graduated following 28 weeks of intensive training.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Patrol’s training academy in Columbus, featured remarks from Superintendent Colonel Charles A. Jones. Andy Wilson delivered the commencement address, and Judge David A. Trimmer administered the oath of office.
Training and Next Steps
Graduates completed a wide range of training, including crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, impaired driver detection, firearms, physical fitness, self-defense, and emergency vehicle operations.
The new troopers will report to their assigned posts beginning Sunday, April 5, where they will undergo approximately 70 days of field training alongside veteran officers.
Circleville Post Assignment
Among the graduates, Trooper Dakota D. Howard of Waverly has been assigned to the Circleville Post, where he will begin serving the Pickaway County area.

Several troopers were recognized for outstanding performance during academy training:

- Top Academic Performance: Meredith H. Arnett
- Top Driving Performance: Trooper Tyranda A. Franklin Jr.
- Top Firearms Performance: Trooper James Light
- Top Physical Fitness: Trooper Kelis J. Secrest
Trooper Logan A. Grooms was selected as class speaker, thanking instructors and family members for their support throughout the rigorous program.
Statewide Impact
The 178th class will be deployed to posts across Ohio, strengthening law enforcement coverage and public safety efforts statewide.
Officials say the new class represents the Patrol’s continued commitment to preparing highly trained troopers to serve Ohio communities.
