CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — St. Patrick’s Day proved to be a high-intensity shift for the Chillicothe Police Department, as officers juggled a series of vandalism reports, counterfeit currency investigations, and a crackdown on distracted driving.

According to media reports released Wednesday morning, CPD handled two dozen incidents throughout the holiday, including a late-night confrontation involving bricks and a major drug trafficking investigation.

Vandalism and “Brick-Throwing” Reports

The night took a destructive turn as several reports of criminal mischief and vandalism were filed:

  • S. Brownell Street: At approximately 11:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 80 block of South Brownell Street following reports of three males dressed in all-black throwing bricks at vehicles. The incident resulted in charges for Resisting Arrest and Criminal Mischief.
  • N. High Street: Earlier in the evening, around 7:00 p.m., a vandalism report was taken at a residence in the 500 block of North High Street. That investigation remains active.
  • Western Ave Hit-Skip: At 5:41 p.m., officers responded to 475 Western Avenue for a “hit-skip” collision on private property. A formal report was filed.

Counterfeit and Drug Investigations

Financial and narcotics crimes were also on the docket for Tuesday:

  • Counterfeit Bill: Just after noon, officers were called to East Main Street on a report of “Criminal Simulation” after a counterfeit bill was discovered. CPD is currently continuing the investigation into the source of the fake currency.
  • Drug Trafficking: At 7:11 p.m., detectives opened a formal investigation into the Possession and Trafficking of Schedule I or II substances following an incident on Mingo Road.

Distracted Driving Crackdown

While many were out celebrating, CPD was heavily visible on city streets, specifically targeting drivers on their phones. Between 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., officers issued multiple citations for “Driving while texting” in the following areas:

  • East Main Street near Paint Street
  • Enderlin Circle (near the City Park Armory)
  • North Paint Street near Main Street

Trespassing and Disorderly Conduct

Public order issues kept officers moving throughout the day, including:

  • Cheyenne Drive: A morning trespass call at 8:51 a.m.
  • East Main Street: A disorderly conduct call at 6:55 p.m. resulting in a criminal trespass report.
  • Western Avenue (KFC): At 7:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the KFC for a disorderly report, leading to a trespassing investigation.
