
CHILLICOTHE — A harrowing early morning commute ended in a dramatic rescue after a vehicle swerved off the road and became submerged in a river along Anderson Station Road.
The 911 Call
At approximately 5:14 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, Ross County dispatchers received a frantic call from a driver stating his car had left the roadway and was sinking. The caller added that he was unable to swim before the line abruptly disconnected.
The Scene
Sgt. Champion and Deputy Sutton were immediately dispatched to the area. Upon their arrival, they discovered the driver safely out of the water and walking toward them on Anderson Station Road.
The driver explained to deputies that he was on his way to work when he swerved to avoid a deer crossing the road. The maneuver caused his vehicle to travel off the right side of the roadway and plunge into the water.
Medical Response
Union Township Fire and EMS arrived on the scene to evaluate the driver. Despite the terrifying nature of the accident and the vehicle being submerged, the driver was checked out by medical personnel and refused further treatment.
The incident was officially documented as a “Failure to Control” vehicle accident.
