CIRCLEVILLE — The Circleville Police Department maintained a steady pace on Tuesday, March 3rd, handling 36 calls for service ranging from overnight proactive patrols to afternoon theft and fraud investigations.

Theft and Fraud Investigations Spike

While the early morning hours were dominated by traffic safety, the afternoon saw a cluster of criminal reports. Officers were dispatched to US-23 South and South Court Street within ten minutes of each other for separate theft reports.

Later in the evening, at approximately 10:50 PM, officers responded to Clinton Street to take a report on a fraud complaint. Additionally, two separate reports were filed regarding threats and harassment—one on US-23 and another on West Franklin Street.

Proactive Patrols and Traffic Enforcement

The night shift was heavily focused on “Extra Patrols” throughout the city. Between midnight and 4:30 AM, officers conducted more than a dozen welfare and property checks on East Main Street, North Court Street, Walnut Street, and Clark Drive, all of which were found to be secure.

Traffic enforcement resulted in several stops:

  • Warnings Issued: Most stops on South Washington, East Main, and Edison Avenue ended with warnings.
  • Citations: One driver was issued a citation following a stop on East Main Street at 1:41 AM.
  • DUI Report: At 6:19 AM, officers investigated a report of a drunk driver on Walnut Creek Pike, though the call concluded without a formal report taken.

Community Concerns: Homelessness and Trespassing

Issues involving trespassing and the local unhoused population were noted multiple times in the daily log. Officers took a report for trespassing and a homeless person complaint on South Court Street mid-morning, followed by a second trespassing report on North Court Street at 3:00 PM. A late-night search for an individual on East Franklin Street resulted in the person being “Gone on Arrival.”

Civil and Fire Services

The department also assisted with civil duties, successfully serving paperwork on South Pickaway Street and Lancaster Pike. Meanwhile, fire department complaints were addressed on Evergreen Avenue and Atwater Avenue, the latter involving a wellbeing check that was cleared without incident.
