WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor (OH-02) has introduced legislation aimed at extending federal support for water infrastructure improvements in rural communities across the country.

Taylor announced the introduction of the Water Infrastructure Assistance Reauthorization Act, which would reauthorize the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Water, Waste Disposal, and Wastewater Facility Grants Program through 2031. The program provides grants, loans, and technical assistance to help small, rural communities upgrade aging water, wastewater, and solid waste systems.

“Rural communities like mine in southern Ohio have long been left behind by the federal government, especially when it comes to water infrastructure improvements,” Taylor said. “Updating water systems can mean an overwhelming cost soaring into the millions for these small communities. My bill will ensure every Buckeye family’s basic needs are met without having a water bill that breaks the bank.”

The USDA program is designed to serve communities with populations of 10,000 or fewer, making it particularly impactful for towns across Ohio’s Second Congressional District, where many communities fall below that threshold. Supporters say the program helps bridge funding gaps for rural families and local governments with limited financial resources while ensuring access to safe and affordable water.

Taylor serves on the Commodity Markets, Digital Assets, and Rural Development Subcommittee of the House Agriculture Committee and is also Vice Chair of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. His roles place him in a key position to advocate for rural infrastructure needs, including water system improvements.
