KINGSTON, Ohio — Downtown Kingston will take a step back in time this weekend as part of a unique, immersive Christmas celebration that transforms part of the village into the ancient Streets of Bethlehem.
The free, family-friendly event invites visitors to walk through a full Bethlehem marketplace, interact with costumed townspeople, and witness a live retelling of the Christmas story. No ticket is required, and guests can explore at their own pace.
A Journey Back to the Time of Christ
Upon arrival, visitors will be greeted by Santa, who will direct them to the entrance of Bethlehem. Guests will begin their journey by “signing the census” and “paying their taxes” to the tax collector — with a gold coin provided for the experience. Roman guards will be stationed throughout the area to maintain order and ensure all “taxes” are paid.
Once inside, families can explore a detailed and interactive marketplace designed to mirror life during the biblical era. Attractions include:
- Live artisans crafting goods as they would in ancient times
- Food and treat samples
- Crafters demonstrating traditional trades
- Townspeople sharing rumors of a newborn Messiah
- Games from the time of Christ, played with real small animal bones
- An opportunity to touch authentic-style crucifixion nails
- A prophet foretelling the coming Messiah
- An encounter with a “prisoner,” symbolizing themes of redemption
- A Nativity scene where guests can speak with Mary about her journey
- Live animals, including a donkey, chickens, and possibly a goat for fresh cheese
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the real Christmas story to life in a memorable and meaningful way.
Modern Christmas Fun, Too
After exiting Bethlehem, guests can stop by a modern-day Christmas area located just outside the city gates. This section includes seasonal vendors (not part of the Bethlehem experience), free wooden ornaments for children to decorate, and hot chocolate to help visitors warm up.
The event is happening Saturday 6 pm to 9pm at 3 West Pickaway Street in Kingston more information can be found at the event page here: https://facebook.com/events/s/christmas-in-bethlehem-2025/2399325817127416/
Guests are encouraged to bring cameras and share their photos online using #ChristmasInBethlehem.
The event runs throughout the weekend, offering families a festive way to celebrate the season and experience a creative retelling of the Christmas story.
