PICKAWAY TOWNSHIP — A multi-vehicle wreck Monday morning on U.S. Route 23 just north of Pittsburgh Road left two people injured — one critically — and scattered debris across a commercial motor-pool lot, the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:03 a.m. when a northbound 2021 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Tyler D. Davis, 27, of Chillicothe, rear-ended a 2020 Toyota Camry driven by Becky Atkinson, 77, of Thurman, Ohio. The impact forced Atkinson’s Camry off the right side of the roadway.

The Silverado then continued forward and struck a 2016 International semi-tractor (with trailer) owned by C&K Trucking of Indianapolis and operated by Aaron Lee Fox, 41, of Logan, Ohio. After the second collision, the Chevrolet veered off the right side of US-23, traveled over a hill, and came to rest inside the fenced lot of Sofidel’s motor-pool area.

Davis sustained suspected serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter from Berger Hospital in Circleville to a Columbus trauma center. Atkinson was transported by ground ambulance to Berger Hospital with suspected minor injuries. The truck driver, Fox, was not injured.

The Sheriff’s Office listed the primary contributing factor for the Chevrolet driver (Unit 1) as “following too close / assured clear distance ahead (ACDA).” No charges have yet been announced.

All three vehicles sustained disabling damage and were towed by Scioto Valley Towing. US-23 northbound was restricted for nearly two hours while deputies investigated and crews cleared the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Michael Oberley.
