OHIO — November 5, 2025 — Sky watchers are in for a treat tonight as the Super Beaver Moon makes its grand appearance — the biggest and brightest supermoon of 2025.
This celestial event occurs when the full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth, known as perigee, making it appear noticeably larger and more luminous than usual. The name “Beaver Moon” dates back to Native American and early colonial times, marking the period when beavers were most active or when trappers set out to secure pelts before winter.
The moon will reach peak illumination at 8:19 a.m. EST on November 5, but the best time to catch the dazzling display will be shortly after sunset on November 4 and again on the evening of November 5.
Observers can expect the moon to appear larger, brighter, and slightly golden as it rises above the horizon. No special equipment is required to enjoy the view — though binoculars can enhance the experience.
Astronomers note that this Super Beaver Moon is the closest full moon to Earth in 2025, offering an especially vivid and memorable sight for stargazers across Ohio and beyond.
