Seth Brown of Globe Furniture in Chillicothe

Chillicothe — Globe Furniture, the last department store in the downtown, is celebrating their 120th anniversary this month.

The Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce helped them start that off with a ribbon-cutting on October 9th, 2025…and then Globe pulled the paper from their display windows to show antique and vintage furniture from their history. In my three below videos, get a view of that day.

In the first, watch the Chamber live podcast and the ribbon-cutting, hear about proclamations from Ohio Representative Mark Johnson and Congressman Dave Taylor, and then get a quick walk into the store as the windows are unwrapped of paper.

In the second, hear from Seth Brown, member of the fifth generation to run the furniture store that has had 60K square feet of display space on three floors since the 1960s.

Then see a display cabinet in the back – from Schachne’s department store, which closed down a few decades ago and has a family connection to Globe. And at the end, see the front bulletin board with bargains that expire soon.

In the third video, watch 11 minutes of excellent interpretation of the “Time Capsule” displays by Heather Drummond, member of Globe’s sales and advertising staff.

Globe Furniture has a website, Facebook page, and Pinterest account.
