New bakery brings gluten-free treats, savory meals, and heartfelt passion to West Main Street

CIRCLEVILLE, OH — A new bakery is bringing both sweetness and soul to downtown Circleville. Sweet Delights Bake & Savory Shop, owned by local baker Sarah Akinmade, has officially opened its doors at 105 W. Main Street, offering everything from decadent cakes and cupcakes to savory grab-and-go meals.

Akinmade, who calls herself the shop’s “Sweets Commander,” has been baking professionally since 2019, but her journey began as a labor of love. She and her sister originally launched a home-based bakery called B&S Delights while her sister battled cancer. What started as a side project to help with expenses quickly grew into a passion — and ultimately a new business venture of her own.

“After my sister stepped away, I wanted a fresh start,” Akinmade said. “Sweet Delights is all about creating joy through food — whether it’s a cake for a wedding or a meal that makes someone’s busy day easier.”

Gluten-Free, Flavor-Full

One of Sweet Delights’ specialties is its selection of gluten-free desserts — a focus that grew from recognizing a need in the community.
“Everybody deserves dessert,” Akinmade said. “People think gluten-free means flavor-free — it’s not true. I use the same recipes, just with better alternatives. The goal is for everyone to enjoy it without missing out on taste.”

Sweet and Savory Options

Sweet Delights isn’t just about cakes and cookies. The shop also features savory grab-and-go meals, including wraps, salads, breakfast quiches, and one of Akinmade’s most popular items — homemade meat pies.
“They’re a buttery, flaky crust with a seasoned hamburger filling,” she explained. “Once people try them, they never forget them.”

The bakery will also serve pancake and cake mixes for customers who want to recreate the Sweet Delights experience at home, as well as candles, merch, and custom-scented products from local makers.

Cakes That Mean Something

Beyond the treats, Akinmade says what she loves most about her work is the personal connection it brings.
“Food connects people,” she said. “We’ve made cakes for weddings, birthdays — even someone’s last birthday before they passed away. Knowing that something I created brought happiness to someone’s life, even for a moment, that’s what keeps me doing this.”
