LANCASTER — A Berne Township Fire Department medic unit was heavily damaged in a crash Saturday evening, September 27, at the intersection of Tarkiln Road and U.S. 33.
The collision, which happened around 4:45 p.m., left the vehicle out of service indefinitely. Fortunately, officials said no major injuries were reported among the firefighters involved.
“While the incident could have been much worse, we are extremely thankful all of our members are doing well,” the department shared in a statement.
Emergency crews from across the region responded to the scene, including the City of Lancaster Fire Department, Hocking Township, Amanda Township, Pleasant Township, and Clearcreek Township fire departments, as well as Hocking County EMS, the City of Logan Fire Department, Lancaster Police, and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office. Midwest Towing and Powers Trucking also assisted.
The department said it is especially grateful to agencies that have offered to loan or replace equipment so that service to the community will not be interrupted.
“This incident serves as a strong reminder that the fire service, law enforcement, EMS, and our local partners truly embody the meaning of family—when one of us is down, others are there to pick us back up,” the department added.
The cause of the crash was not detailed.
