ASHVILLE — Fire crews and mutual aid partners spent Tuesday, August 20, training in live fire conditions at a donated property along State Route 104.

The training exercise took place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 10569 SR 104, where firefighters practiced real-life structure fire operations in a safe, controlled setting. Officials said drivers in the area may have noticed heavy emergency vehicle traffic, slowed travel, and visible smoke. Signs were posted a half-mile north and south of the property to alert motorists.

Thanks to the donation of the structure by a local community member, firefighters were able to sharpen their skills in scenarios that are difficult to replicate outside of an actual blaze.

“This type of training is incredibly valuable,” officials said. “It allows our crews and partners to fine-tune firefighting operations under realistic conditions while keeping everyone safe.”

The department said it plans to share photos from the event following the completion of the training.
