CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Alzheimer’s Association is calling on Central Ohio residents to join the fight against Alzheimer’s by registering for the 2025 Circleville Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, at Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park, 1230 Pontius Road.
Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Promise Garden Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. The walk will begin immediately afterward.
The event is part of the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research, with more than 600 walks held nationwide each year. Proceeds from the Circleville event will support local educational programs, support groups, care services, and advancements in treatment.
One of the walk’s most moving traditions, the Promise Garden Ceremony, allows participants to carry flowers in colors symbolizing their personal connection to Alzheimer’s. “Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a day filled with emotion, inspiration, inclusion, and hope,” said Alicia Billman, manager of the Circleville Walk. “Every step we take brings us closer to a cure and to a world without Alzheimer’s and dementia.”
Participation is free, and individuals or teams can set fundraising goals to earn incentives such as T-shirts, backpacks, and blankets.
The need for awareness and support is greater than ever. More than 7 million Americans are now living with Alzheimer’s, including 236,200 Ohioans. Between 2000 and 2022, deaths from Alzheimer’s increased by 142%, while heart disease deaths declined by 2.1%. In Ohio alone, 452,000 caregivers provide an estimated 679 million hours of unpaid care each year — valued at more than $13.3 billion.
