Chillicothe & Ross County — As Independence Day nears, Revolutionary War patriots were commemorated recently. The Sons of the American Revolution held a ceremony June 21st in Chillicothe’s Grandview Cemetery.

With assistance from the Camp Charlotte chapter in Pickaway County, and the Ross County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Arthur St. Clair Chapter of the SAR held their annual Color Guard event for the Ross County area.

The event focused on honoring five veterans of the American Revolution who emigrated to Ross County but whose true graves are unlocated. Instead, they are among 35 memorial markers in “Patriot Square” in Grandview Cemetery.

Shawn Cox, past president of the chapter and graves registration committee chairman, explains the event in the below video.

My video of the musket salute includes the closing prayer.

I recorded Robert Grimm, also past president of the chapter, in one of his periodic “Grim Glimpse of History” speeches to give context to the actions of some of the men commemorated there.

Hear also an explanation of how the “Betsy Ross Flag” may be legendary, and a different kind of star was on the first official American flag, from Richard Minshall of the Camp Charlotte Chapter.
