Chillicothe — The Ross County Grand Jury returned all 12 of their cases on Friday, June 13th, 2025, with only one open for release to the public. From testimony in the the grand jury in the case, according to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office:

On the afternoon of April 9th, a Chillicothe Police officer was dispatched to possible burglary at 531 East Main Street, the former Payless Shoe Store, recently renovated into Integrated Services for Behavioral Health.

Upon arrival, he was told that someone had entered through a side door. While the officer was in front, checking the building, he saw a light come on in a room down the hall. When he saw a man come into view in the hallway, the officer motioned for him to come and talk.

The suspect said he was allowed inside because he was “doing a side job.” The officer detained and Mirandized him.

The suspect gave several accounts as to how he was allowed inside, first saying he was a contractor who was woking on the toilets, then that he was checking on the lights.

He said that “Paul Newman” had given him permission. The officer then saw that the actor Paul Newman had read an audio book that the suspect had on him.

A real contractor then came to the scene and said that not only was the suspect not a contractor there, but that all the work had been completed.

For indictments on fifth-degree felony breaking and entering, 37-year-old Shawn David Lyons could get up to a year and $2,500 in fines.
