CHILLICOTHE, OH — Police are investigating a bold early morning auto theft that saw three high-performance Chevrolet Corvettes stolen from a local dealership in a scene that echoes the movie Gone in 60 Seconds.
On May 13, 2025, just after 2:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of stolen vehicles at Chillicothe Trucks, Inc., located at 173 S. Renick Avenue. According to reports, a security guard on duty, Christopher Gumm, had fallen asleep and awoke to the sound of three Corvettes—described as red, blue, and black—racing out of the front gate, which had been rammed open.
Investigators at the scene discovered a black 2021 GMC Sierra pickup had been used to break through the gate. Evidence at the scene included shattered window glass, indicating forced entry into at least one of the stolen cars. Photographs were taken and logged into the official police report.
The stolen Corvettes were last seen heading northbound on Renick Avenue, believed to have turned north on U.S. Route 23 toward Columbus. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued to surrounding agencies.
A break in the case came shortly after when a Pickaway County deputy reported spotting the three vehicles on US-23. One of the stolen Corvettes was later recovered by a Commercial Point police officer near State Route 762. The vehicle had been disabled, possibly having run out of fuel. Its headlights were reportedly turned off as the officer approached. The car was confirmed stolen and transported to a secure facility for further investigation.
The case is being pursued as a violation of Receiving Stolen Property (ORC 2913.51), a fourth-degree felony under Ohio law. The remaining two Corvettes are still missing, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the theft or the suspects to contact the Chillicothe Police Department or the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
